As most of you know, I used to teach at Jordan High School in Long Beach. It is a low-income, minority school with many challenges. Some of the best years of my life were spent there, in large part because of the amazing students. They work so hard and have to overcome so much. They inspired me to become both a better teacher as well as a better human being. An incredible young teacher named Whitney Gomes took over my position and has continued to do amazing work. She is one of those teachers that arrives to work at 6 am and gets home around 7 pm. In addition to her many other extra-curricular activities, she and another wonderful teacher, Sandra Del Cid, started a running club. Almost everyone told them it would never work and that the kids would not show up. Well, now they are in their 7th year!
Right now they do need our help. They need funds for shoes, transportation and entrances. Please consider making a donation to help them. Any bit will help.
