A Nonviolent Communication Workshop focusing on Compassionate Communication

November 10th and November 11th in Carbondale, CO

When our communication supports compassionate giving and receiving, happiness replaces violence and grieving! – Marshall B. Rosenberg

NVC is all about communication! Language, our words, are the most powerful tool we have! Whether spoken out loud or in our own mind, words hold the power to cultivate a quality of life that nourishes us or depletes us.

When that little voice inside our heads is loud and judgmental we have an opportunity to get curious about the gift that lies hidden in the words. This curiosity leads to an increase in self-compassion and an understanding of what actions support us living our lives with the qualities we value and hold as important. An outcome of this is a deeper connection with others and a decrease in harmful conflict.

NVC is studied and used worldwide. It is a language for humankind, one that crosses cultures, faiths, religions, ages, and the whole of diversity found in the people all over the world.

NonViolent Communication Foundations Course

Facilitated by Karen Barbee

As a certified NonViolent Communication Trainer, Karen Barbee offers workshops that open up a deep understanding of why people do what they do and provide a model of communication that allows participants to access understanding of self. In so doing, we realize what supports us to be well in our lives and what robs us our well-being. We become self-empowered and through this experience, we are able to contribute to the well-being of others. Our relationships are strengthened by our increased capacity to understand others and live from a foundation of compassion.

  • Listen to hear the message in the words
  • Speak in a way that you are heard
  • Create win/win outcomes from conflict
  • Effectively deal with emotions
  • Deepen your relationships

NVC, Nonviolent Communication, offers a new model of relating that will transform your way of using words, leading to open, honest and effective communication from the heart.

Nonviolent communication is a powerful complement to Dharma practice in that it offers us a compassionate tool to use not only with our own internal dialogue with ourseleves but helps us re-frame our outer dialogue with others freeing us from a lot of judgment and criticism and aligning us with our kind hearts and well wishes for all beings. -Venerable Thubten Semkye of Sravasti Abbey
